Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s much-awaited rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has finally hit the screens. While the film has opened to a strong start at the box office, the early reviews paint a mixed picture.
As Sunny, Varun Dhawan falls short of expectations. A weak script further drags down his overacting and forced comic timing. In several scenes, he doesn’t look fresh, and even slips in his dialogue delivery. A noticeable example is his mispronunciation of Baahubali as “Bhaubali,” though he amusingly corrects himself later. Janhvi Kapoor as Tulsi Kumari too fails to bring depth to her character. Her performance lacks subtlety, making it difficult for audiences to connect with her emotionally.

The supporting cast delivers uneven performances. Sanya Malhotra is decent as Ananya, while Rohit Saraf is strictly ordinary as Vikram. Manish Paul entertains at times as the wedding planner Kuku, whereas Akshay Oberoi gets a few good moments as Param Singh. The ensemble, including Prajakta Koli, Rohitashv Gour, and Manini Chadda, performs adequately but leaves little lasting impact.
Despite its shortcomings, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has made a remarkable opening at the box office. The film collected between ₹9-10 crore on its first day, October 2, 2025, registering around 32.45% occupancy excluding night shows. This makes it the second-biggest opening for a romantic comedy this year, just behind Saiyaara. Janhvi Kapoor surpasses her Param Sundari opening (₹7.37 crore), claiming two spots in 2025’s top 10 romantic openers.
With positive word-of-mouth and an extended weekend ahead, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is expected to show steady growth at the box office. This comes even though the critics’ reviews remain divided. Audiences seem drawn to the star cast, colorful wedding sequences, and catchy music. These elements could help the film sustain its momentum over the next few days.
