In a massive setback for Team India, star wicketkeeper and vice-captain Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against England after suffering a fractured toe on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. The incident occurred when Pant inside-edged a reverse sweep off England pacer Chris Woakes onto his right foot while batting on 37.
Rishabh Pant initially survived an LBW appeal and DRS review, but the impact of the ball left him visibly in pain and unable to continue. His right foot began to swell rapidly, and he was unable to put any weight on it. Medical staff rushed in to assist, and he was eventually taken off the field using a golf-style buggy, with the crowd watching in concern.

After initial treatment at the ground’s medical facility, Pant was sent for scans which confirmed a toe fracture. As per reports from The Indian Express, he has been advised a minimum six-week rest period, ruling him out of not just this Test but potentially upcoming fixtures as well.
This injury comes at a crucial point in the series, with India needing a win to stay alive. Pant’s absence not only weakens India’s middle order but also puts pressure on the team’s balance and leadership group. Captain Shubman Gill was seen visiting Pant during his check-up, highlighting the emotional weight this injury carries for the team.
With India now one man short and their vice-captain sidelined, the road ahead in Manchester looks all the more challenging. Fans and teammates alike will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Pant, who has been a vital pillar of the Indian Test side.
