Navratri 2025: Day-by-Day Colour Guide & Fasting Rules Explained

Navratri 2025, the nine-day festival dedicated to Maa Durga, begins on September 22 and concludes on October 2, culminating with Dussehra. Observed with devotion across India, Shardiya Navratri celebrates the nine forms of the goddess, known as the Navadurgas, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. Each day has its unique significance, along with an associated colour that devotees wear to enhance positivity, devotion, and spiritual harmony.

Fasting is an integral part of the festival, with many observing full-day fasts or fasting on selected days. Devotees should avoid regular salt, meat, eggs, onions, garlic, alcohol, and cigarettes, and use rock salt (sendha namak) instead. They should stay hydrated with water, milk, and fresh juices, wake up early, bathe, wear fresh clothes, and offer prayers to Maa Durga. Children, the elderly, pregnant, or nursing women should follow fasting carefully or avoid strict fasts.

Here’s a day-wise colour guide:

  • Day 1 (Sept 22) – White for Maa Shailputri: Purity, calm, and serenity.
  • Day 2 (Sept 23) – Red for Maa Brahmacharini: Passion, courage, and energy.
  • Day 3 (Sept 24) – Royal Blue for Maa Chandraghanta: Spirituality and peace.
  • Day 4 (Sept 25) – Yellow for Maa Kushmanda: Joy and positivity.
  • Day 5 (Sept 26) – Green for Maa Skandamata: Growth, harmony, and abundance.
  • Day 6 (Sept 27) – Grey for Maa Katyayani: Balance and emotional stability.
  • Day 7 (Sept 28) – Orange for Maa Kalaratri: Energy, creativity, and courage.
  • Day 8 (Sept 29) – Peacock Green for Maa Mahagauri: Compassion, renewal, and grace.
  • Day 9 (Sept 30) – Pink for Maa Siddhidatri: Universal love, harmony, and charm.

Navratri 2025 promises devotion, vibrancy, and spiritual alignment. Wearing the colours, observing fasts, and seeking Maa Durga’s blessings make Navratri a joyous, meaningful festival.
