Popular Punjabi comedian and actor Jaswinder Bhalla passed away early Friday morning at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and unforgettable performances. The 65-year-old veteran reportedly suffered a brain stroke and breathed his last around 4 a.m., sending shockwaves across the Punjabi film industry and among his countless fans.
Born on 4 May 1960 in Ludhiana, Bhalla was not only a gifted comedian but also a scholar, holding a Ph.D. from Chaudhary Charan Singh Post Graduate College, Meerut. He even served as an Assistant Professor at the Punjab Agricultural University before stepping into showbiz.

His career took off in 1988 with the release of the comedy series Chhankata 88, which quickly gained massive popularity. Along with co-performer Bal Mukund Sharma, Bhalla’s witty dialogues and signature catchphrases became a household name, paving the way for his entry into Punjabi cinema.
Bhalla made his film debut with Dulla Bhatti and went on to star in several blockbusters, including Mahaul Theek Hai, Jija Ji, Carry on Jatta, Jatt and Juliet, Power Cut, Kabaddi Once Again, and Jatt Airways. Known for his trademark Takia Klams (catchphrases), he carved a unique space for himself as the king of Punjabi comedy.
His last film appearance was in Shinda Shinda No Papa (2025), alongside Gippy Grewal and Hina Khan, proving that his charm and comic timing remained timeless.
The family will hold Jaswinder Bhalla’s cremation on Saturday. His wife, Parmdeep Bhalla, and son, actor Pukhraj Bhalla, survive him.
