Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor recently found herself at the center of online trolling after a video from a Janmashtami event in Mumbai went viral. The actress, who attended the grand Dahi Handi celebrations in Ghatkopar on August 16, was seen breaking the ritualistic matki with BJP MLA Ram Kadam by her side. As she struck the pot with a coconut, Janhvi chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai!”, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
However, the moment quickly turned into meme material on social media. Many netizens joked that the actress had confused Janmashtami with Independence Day, since both occasions are celebrated in mid-August. While some called it a harmless mistake, others criticized her, sparking a wave of trolling across platforms.

Responding to the backlash, Janhvi Kapoor decided to clear the air. Taking to her Instagram stories on August 17, she shared the full, unedited video from the event. In the clip, BJP MLA Ram Kadam can be heard chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” first, after which Janhvi simply repeated it. Along with the video, the Param Sundari actress wrote: “Just for context full video lol. Unke bolne ke baad nahi bolti toh problem, aur bolo toh bhi video ko kaat ke meme material. Waise sirf Janmashtami ke din nahi, roz bolungi Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
Her clarification not only shut down the trolls but also showed her witty and fearless side. Instead of taking the negativity personally, Janhvi boldly stated that she would proudly chant the slogan every day.
With this, the actress turned a trolling episode into a moment of patriotism and self-assurance — proving once again that in the world of social media, context matters.
