Instagram just dropped a major update aimed at making the app feel more personal, social, and in sync with your inner circle. The platform has rolled out two big features — the long-awaited Instagram Reposts tab and a brand-new Friends tab in Reels — and they’re already making waves.
Let’s start with the Instagram Reposts tab. You can now officially repost public Reels and feed posts from other accounts — no more screenshots, third-party apps, or clunky workarounds. These reposts won’t clutter your main grid; instead, they’ll appear in a dedicated Reposts tab on your profile. You can even add a short, thought-bubble-style comment to give it your own twist. Best part? The original creator is credited, helping their content reach more people and giving creators an organic boost.

Then there’s the new Friends tab in Reels, designed to help you discover content your friends are actually engaging with. Powered by Meta’s Blends algorithm, it shows Reels that your friends have liked, shared, or commented on — offering a peek into what’s trending within your circle. It’s Instagram’s way of mixing personalized recommendations with community-driven discovery.
While some users are throwing shade at Instagram for copying features from TikTok, Twitter (X), and Snapchat, others believe it’s a smart move to keep the platform social and fresh.
Whether you’re a casual scroller or a full-time content creator, these updates might just change the way you connect and share.
What do you think — is Instagram becoming smarter or just trying to be everyone else?
